[Giveaway] California Rice Oil Company

One thing I often say is that as a food writer I may never become rich but I won’t go hungry either.  We are living during a time when brands will willingly send out samples of their products for editorial consideration beyond print publications.  Once such company that I recently connected with is the California Rice Oil Company.  Toted as a healthier way to fry food with it’s super high smoke point (490 F, higher than any other vegetable oils) and a good balance of Mono-Unsaturated, Poly-Unsaturated and Saturated fats as according to the American Heart Association guidelines.  I don’t know about the frying part but I recently used this oil as a substitute for olive oil in my balsamic viniagrette and to replace the vegetable oil in my honey-cinnamon corn muffins. The dishes were just as tasty with the Rice Bran oil as with the others and was probably healthier to boot. This product is naturally rich in Vitamin E, made from non-GMO Thai rice and has no synthetic antioxidants added.  And if you don’t want to take my word for it than perhaps you should listen to what Dr. Oz had to say…

I’m still experimenting with this new found item but in the meantime the good folks at California Rice Oil have offered to send out to one lucky reader a 750ml bottle of Rice Bran Oil to try. All you have to do is leave a comment below telling us in what dish would you swap out your standard oil for the Rice Brain Oil.  Be sure to check out California Rice Oil’s website for more information on the product and keep up with them on Twitter and Facebook as well.  Winner will be chosen randomly and announced on Friday.

Healthier french fries! With the high smoke point it works wonders. This oil also absorbs less into the food being fried. It adds a very light nutty taste which is all but unnoticeable in the French Fries. While frying is not the best choice this oil makes it slightly less of a bad choice.
