Sorry for the radio silence around these parts the past week, I don’t know about you but we’ve been trying to enjoy every bit of summer that’s left before those breezy beautiful days of Fall come rolling in. Which for me personally means homework, little league soccer and buckling down on a certain book project. Last month marked our first full year of active blogging here at The Blacker The Berry Food and to celebrate we hosted a few giveaways from some of our favorite brands like Theo Chocolate, Lodge Cast Iron, and Chef Belinda’s Spices. There was one giveaway that seemed to fall short and that was the California Rice Oil. Now listen up, I’m not a spokesperson for the company and they are not compensating me or my staff in any way. Here at The Blacker The Berry Food we only support products that we can really get behind and this is one of them. I know many of us are striving for a better eating lifestyle so the idea of a cooking oil with a super high frying point may not appeal to you at the moment but this oil can do so much more. With that being said we are giving you one more chance to try it out for yourself. You have until next Friday, August 17th to go to the original blog post here…and let us know how you would or have integrated the California Rice Oil into your diet. The winner will be chosen at random on Friday evening and announced on Monday, August 20th.
Good Luck and Happy Summer!

I have been very concerned about the prevalent use of soy bean oil in so many (like all) salad dressings including mayonaise and Miracle Whip. this includes our favorite ranch and oil based vinegar dressings, like italian, caesar, etc.
I went looking on the internet for a recipe for home made mayonnaise and found one. I made it and put it back the K—t mayo jar. My wife immediatley noticed the difference (for the better) Rice bran oil does not have that greasy taste that some other oils have and has pleasant nutty flavor to it.
I guess what I really like is that it is a non-gmo product and it does not have plant estrogen like soy bean oil based dressing have. Of course, I use it exclusively for frying, and for any recipe that calls for oil.
One more thing. I still love olive oil and some of my recipes call for cooking with olive oil, soooo, I use half olive oil, half rice bran oil. This raises the smoke point on the oil so that I can cook hotter faster than I would be able to if I only used olive oil. Rice bran oil makes everything better.
